Cold Knowledge: From 3500 B.C. to 1781 B.C. Ancient Babylonian men manicured and colored their nails using kohl, with different colors representing different classes, it is manicure first appear in the history.
However, nail polish options have come a long way since they first started. You can choose from regular or gel nails, in addition to fake nails and other, newer options. Have you thought of the best choice for your nails?
Regular Nail Polish
Many people love traditional nail polish because it can easily be applied at home, without any extra equipment. Regular nail polish is easy to apply and remove, so you can change the color as often as you'd like. Moreover if you would like professional manicures, they are usually the most affordable service that salons offer. A lot of the time they can cost less than $20, which is great if you’re on a budget.
However, traditional nail polish has one major drawback: it's easy to chip and damage. Even if it dries without issue, it doesn't tend to stay on the nails for very long. If you need something more durable, then this may not be the best option for you.
Gel Nail Polish
Gel manicures cost more in the salon than regular manicures do.However, you could choose to make it by yourself at home. You would need a UV light nail lamp to finish it. Gel manicures also take much longer to finish the cure process.
After the gel base coat has been added, your nails will be placed under a UV light to "cure" the polish. Each new coat gets set in the UV light after application, right down to the top coat.
Why go through this long process? Many people love the gel nails because they last much longer than standard manicures. Gel polish doesn't chip, so you can keep it on for weeks at a time. You'll only need to get it changed or removed when your nails grow out too far. That said, gel manicures are great if you use your hands a lot and want your nails to last.
If you're trying to grow your natural nails out, gel is also a good choice. The gel adds a layer of protection that helps keep your nails from breaking.
How To Keep Nail from Chipping
1. Apply nail polish when your nails are dry. Although there is a myth that you should soak your nails before a manicure, water on your nails will actually stop the polish from adhering correctly. This could cause your nail polish to chip off quickly.
2. Use a base coat: Don't use a 2-in-1 base and top coat. These will not work as well as a separate base and top coats that are each formulated specifically for their location on your nail.
3. Let the polish dry completely between coats. Letting each coat dry completely allows it to become hard and tough.
4. Apply several layers of polish. You will want to brush on at least 2-3 coats. Remember, you want to let each coat dry before adding on another.
5. Apply a top coat. Begin your top coat by doing a small layer around the tip of the nail. Then, once that is dry, cover the whole nail in top coat.
6. If the tips of your nails have chipped, add super-thin French tip.
